History of Azabu Kawagoeya

1883
Kiyozaburo Uehara, the originator of Azabu Kawagoeya, came up to Tokyo and started to work with corn wholesaler. His dedicated attitude was caught attention of Kamekichi Otaka, founder of carlings store, and Kiyozaburo started to work with Kamekichi.
1889
Kiyozaburo founded his own carling store in Iikura-machi in Azabu, with Kamekichi’s approval.
Azabu in those days was not bustling city and was a quiet town except central. It became bustling in Showa-era.
1923 Eitaro Uehara, a successor to Kiyozaburo, moved to current head quarter address with 4 newly introduced carling machine.
It took almost a day to deliver carlings to Meguro, Gotanda or Shibuya, with two-wheeled cart.
1951 Kawagoeya K.K. was founded with capital of 0.5 million yen
Equipped 6 carling machines and started full-scale operation as wholesaler to retail stores.
1955 Eiichi Uehara, a successor to Eitaro, became the president
Expanded wholesale business and started to sell to supermarkets and department stores.
1968 Increased capital to 3 million yen
Opened a store in Hihonbashi Takashimaya.
1979 Increased capital to 5 million yen
1990 100 year anniversary
Changed company name to Azabu Kawagoeya
Became focused on producing more delicious, authentic, safe products.
1992 Peanuts Paste made from peanuts from Chiba Prefecture gained popularity (it is still one of the bestselling products)
1993 Started distribution to Co-op
1995 Increased capital to 10 million yen
1998 Launched company website and started online store
2006 Takeshi Uehara, a successor to Eiichi, became the president
2007 Opened Shinbashi office
2008 Sequentially launched Peanuts sweeten-natto, Peanuts nimame (cooked beans), Peanuts Ice cream, Peanuts shortbread
2009 Established distribution channels to overseas, especially to Taiwan. Sales strategies were developed by the WEB net planning office.
